Save Mart Celebrates Grand Reopening of Oakdale & Scenic
Ribbon Cutting Event Included Over $17,000 in Community Investments and a Thrilling Supermarket Sweeps Charity Challenge Between Modesto's Finest and Bravest!
MODESTO, Calif. – (April 30, 2025) – Save Mart, a part of The Save Mart Companies, one of the largest regional grocery chains in California, celebrated the grand re-opening of its refreshed store at 801 Oakdale Road in Modesto on Wednesday, April 30. The festivities included an exciting Supermarket Sweeps charity challenge with Modesto Police Department vs. Modesto Fire Department, a dynamic in-store mural creation, and a lively naming contest for Save Mart’s Classic Parade Go-Kart. Shoppers were treated to special giveaways, with the first 100 customers receiving curated bags of groceries at checkout, and the event highlighted the store’s commitment to the community with over $17,000 in charitable donations presented during the celebratory ribbon cutting.
“The grand re-opening of Save Mart at Oakdale & Scenic reinforces our more than 70-year commitment to Modesto and the Central Valley. As part of the newest shopping experience at Save Mart, we are offering sweeping price reductions on thousands of essential items our customers use daily,” said Donovan Ford, senior vice president and chief operations officer for The Save Mart Companies. “Every investment in our stores is an investment in our community. Modesto is our hometown, and our commitment to this city has never been stronger.”
Save Mart’s store manager, Holly Alton, and The Save Mart Companies’ President, Jim Perkins, welcomed community members and dignitaries during the ceremonial ribbon cutting and presented checks totaling $9,000 in community investments to local organizations, including donations to Thomas Downey High School Jazz Band, Rose Avenue Elementary School, Legacy Alliance Outreach, Sierra Vista Child & Family Services, Healthy Alternatives to Violent Environments (HAVEN), and the Modesto Downtown Streets Team.
Following the ribbon cutting, teams from Modesto Police and Fire Departments competed in a rousing “Save Mart + Local Heroes: Sweeping the Community” charity challenge with the Modesto Fire Department receiving a $2,000 First Place donation to Modesto City Firefighters Association Widows and Orphans Fund and Modesto Police Department receiving a $1,500 Runner-up donation to the Healthy Room Project. It was an extremely close race, with just $21.68 separating the two when the final carts were tallied. The food collected during the challenge, worth $4,140.78, was donated to the Food Initiative of Greater Stanislaus on behalf of Modesto Mayor Sue Zwahlen.
Modesto artist, Hocus (IG @Hocus1), began working on a vibrant “Modesto in Motion” mural celebrating Modesto's iconic car culture and agricultural heritage. The live-in store creation will continue through Sunday, May 4, for an interactive shopping experience.
Save Mart’s beloved vintage Parade Go-Kart van was proudly on display in-store, inviting shoppers to join a naming contest from April 30 to May 7. Following the contest, the top three name submissions will be shared on Instagram for a community vote to select the favorite. The winning name will be officially unveiled later in May.
Extensively refreshed throughout, the local store was reimagined to meet the evolving needs and tastes of shoppers in the surrounding communities. That includes an ambitious price reduction program on products central to today’s families. From farm-fresh avocados and bananas to chicken breast, ground beef, bread, pasta, and household staples like toothpaste and laundry detergent, the Lower Prices initiative is focused on easing expenses for families while redefining value in grocery shopping.
The store features more than 600 new wines, spirits and beer selections, “fresh cut” produce prepared daily, 275 specialty cheeses for creating the perfect charcuterie board and an enhanced bakery department. The expanded floral shop will play host to an on-site florist for creating seasonal and special occasion arrangements along with “mix-your-own” bouquets. With the new massive price reduction rollout, Save Mart shoppers will enjoy incredible savings on thousands of items storewide.
For shoppers’ convenience, a new curbside Pick-up area with dedicated parking stalls is featured prominently in the front of the store and is free to online shoppers every day. Home delivery platforms including Instacart, DoorDash, GrubHub, and Uber Eats will continue to fulfill the needs of online customers. In addition, Save Mart welcomes shoppers with EBT SNAP and offers payment options through our ecommerce partners Instacart and Door Dash, as well as on savemart.com.
