According to the California Food Bank Association, an average of one in every eight adults experiences food insecurity. That means that individual doesn’t know from where his or her next meal will come. It’s worse in Nevada; one in seven. Every holiday season, from mid-November to the near end of December, we hold the Give.Share.CARE! Holiday Drive in all of our stores to raise money for about three dozen local food banks throughout California and Northern Nevada. Customers can tear $2, $3 or $5 coupons at the check stand and hand it to their cashier. That amount is added to their grocery bill, and 100% of their donations go toward making the holidays brighter for those in need. In 2016, we helped raise $327,000 … that’s a 30% increase from the prior year. Food banks prefer cash because they have access to prices that help make their money stretch further.
