Dazzling New Float Featuring the Rainbow Dragon Debuts in San Francisco’s Renowned Chinese New Year Parade on Saturday, Feb. 24 

SAN FRANCISCO– February 12, 2024 – A proud member of the communities and neighborhoods it serves, Lucky Supermarkets continues its longstanding tradition of celebrating the Lunar New Year throughout the Bay Area. In addition to an exciting performance from LionDanceME and an impressive new float in the parade, participating stores will offer many specialty ingredients to prepare delicious authentic dishes, dumplings and noodles, tangerines, oranges and a variety of florals for gifting among family and friends.

To usher in the auspicious Year of the Dragon, Lucky is participating in a variety of special events and opportunities to celebrate the New Year:  

  • San Francisco’s Lucky store located on Sloat Blvd., is showcasing a Dragon statue measuring 9’ long, 5’ high and weighing approximately 500 pounds. Designed by Bay Area artist, Stephanie Mufson, the statue is one of a limited number of the specially created public art projects for the Lunar New Year on display in and around San Francisco. The Rainbow Dragon utilizes its inherent power to protect and defend as it wards off evil spirits. Fueled by the influence of its colors, each one gives special meaning to the New Year. The Rainbow Dragon will remain on display through March 2, 2024. 
  • On Saturday, February 17, the San Francisco Lucky store on Sloat Blvd., will welcome the acclaimed dance troupe, LionDanceMEL, for a special performance at 1:30 p.m. As seen on the hit show America’s Got Talent, LionDanceME will perform a traditional lion dance throughout the store for a lively Lunar New Year celebration with music and cultural entertainment that shoppers and the community will enjoy.  The performance is free and everyone is welcome to attend. 
  • A long-time sponsor of the San Francisco’s renowned Chinese New Year Parade, Lucky will debut its dazzling new float showcasing the Rainbow Dragon in San Francisco’s famed parade on Saturday, Feb. 24. Actress, rapper and comedienne Awkwafina serves as this year’s Parade Grand Marshall which is scheduled to step off at 5:15 p.m.
