Save Mart, Lucky and FoodMaxx shoppers were very generous this holiday season. They donated more than $316,000 to three dozen food banks throughout California and Northern Nevada. That’s a 30% increase from 2015 when stores collected $240,000.
Each year, customers can tear off a donation coupon at checkout and hand it to their cashier. Coupons range from $2 to $5, and the amount is added to the grocery bill. 100% of the proceeds benefit the food bank assigned to each store. This year, Fresno State President Joseph Castro and Bakersfield Mayor Harvey Hall made high profile donations to the campaign which helped encourage the public to participate.
