Friends Feeding Friends Holiday Food Drive Runs Through December 31 at all Save Mart, Lucky, and FoodMaxx Stores

MODESTO, Calif. (December 22, 2023) – Save Mart, Lucky, and FoodMaxx shoppers still have an opportunity to support their local food bank and food pantry this holiday season during The Save Mart Companies’ storewide holiday food drive.  Shoppers choose a $15 or $25 bag of grocery essentials at check out, and the tax-deductible contribution will be noted on their receipt.  The crucial fundraising effort runs through December 31 and supports 37 partner food banks throughout California and Western Nevada.

“Our Food Bank is serving levels of need even higher than the peak of the pandemic—and on far less support than a couple years ago,” says Michael Altfest, Director of Community Engagement at Alameda County Community Food Bank. “Food Banks like ours are only able to do the work we do with the support of a passionate community. And in a county where 1 in 4 of us is experiencing hunger, we need all the support we can get. We’re grateful to Lucky, Save Mart, and FoodMaxx for making it easy for shoppers to make a meaningful and impactful contribution that will create a healthier community for all.”

“This holiday season, an average of 500,000 people a month will rely on Second Harvest for food as they feel the pinch of living in one of the most expensive regions in the nation,” said Leslie Bacho, CEO of Second Harvest of Silicon Valley. “We are so grateful to Save Mart, Lucky and FoodMaxx shoppers for supporting neighbors who are struggling with food insecurity, and for helping us ensure they have access to nutritious food during the holidays and all year around.”

With less than two weeks left in the year, a meaning donation to Friends Feeding Friends can still be made at check-out.  All Save Mart, Lucky, and FoodMaxx stores will be open on Christmas Eve until 7:00 p.m. and select stores will be open Christmas Day from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to assist shoppers with last minute or forgotten holiday items.  To see a list of stores open on Christmas Day, visit www.thesavemartcompanies.com.
