Modesto, CA January 18, 2013 – During the holiday, the stores of Save Mart Supermarkets- Save Mart, S-Mart Foods, and Luckys- displayed bags of groceries showing the amount of food a donation of $5, $10, $15, or $20 would provide their local food bank. And our customers responded! $143,000 is being portioned out to local Feeding America food banks in California and Northern Nevada (see list below).
Cash donations really help supplement food banks with much needed items like protein and produce. With the support, size, and buying power of Feeding America, local food banks can purchase these items for pennies on the dollar. Being able to offer produce and protein offerings such as meat and chicken greatly benefit those who otherwise have no options for eating nutritious meals.
