Simplicity and convenience of store icons raises over $166,400 for breast cancer research

Modesto, Calif., November 5, 2012– In its 2nd year of participating in the pink ribbon campaign, Save Mart, S-Mart Foods, Lucky, FoodMaxx, and Maxx Value Foods stores sold “Making Strides” icons for $1.00 each during the month of October raising over $166,400…an increase of $10,000 over last year’s campaign.  Our shoppers and associates once again offered their support for cancer research at checkout by donating a dollar at a time when they completed their shopping trip. Paper “icons,” signed and hung up in the stores, were a joyful reminder of what great communities we serve.

In 2011, our generous customers donated over $155,000. Even though finances continue to be tight thousands of our customers purchased a $1.00 icon taking advantage of this easy way to raise much needed funds in the fight against breast cancer.  Our company is very proud to be a part of this effort.

We are grateful for the tremendous support from Save Mart Supermarket customers and employees. Together, we’ll save more lives and help everyone celebrate more birthdays,” said Barbara Wakeley, RVP, Great Valley Region & Corporate Relations, American Cancer Society. “The donations from this campaign will enable us to continue to fund research, and provide lifesaving programs and services.”

An estimated 2.5 million breast cancer survivors will celebrate a birthday this year thanks to all those who help raise much needed funds towards cancer research.
