Maxx Value Celebrates Grand Re-Opening in Modesto, Bringing Refreshed Value Shopping Experience to 70-Year Hometown Market
MODESTO, Calif. (November 19, 2025) – Continuing more than seven decades of The Save Mart Companies serving families and neighborhoods in Modesto, the company celebrated the grand re-opening of its re-imagined Maxx Value store on Wednesday, November 19. The store, located at 415 Paradise Road in Modesto, is designed to bring neighborhoods the same warehouse-style value and affordability as the company’s FoodMaxx banner in a smaller footprint, all without requiring a membership.
“We’re thrilled to bring Modesto a renewed Maxx Value shopping experience that keeps affordability and community at its heart,” said Nicholas Chan, vice president of store operations at The Save Mart Companies. “This re-opening is a celebration of our customers and a thank-you to a community that’s supported us for generations. We want to continue to be a destination for value-minded shoppers and this store allows us to be exactly that.”
The Modesto Maxx Value will now feature expanded meat, dairy, deli, and frozen sections, along with an expanded beer and Hispanic food assortment. The new enhancements were made to elevate the store’s shopping experience, improve operational efficiency, and better align offerings with customer needs. The 34,800-square-foot store originally opened in 2006 as a Save Mart and transitioned to the Maxx Value format in 2012.
The grand re-opening kicked off with a mystery gift card giveaway valued between $5-$100 for the first 100 customers, drawing enthusiastic crowds to the newly transformed store. The Save Mart Companies’ leadership and local dignitaries gathered for a ceremonial ribbon cutting, and invited the community to tour the store, enjoy product samples, and take advantage of exclusive savings. Both the Modesto High School FFA Ag Boosters and the Boys and Girls Club of Stanislaus County received a community donation of $1,500 each in support of their missions.
Opening day festivities also featured a “Bag Your Savings” community competition, a lively bagging challenge where two local nonprofits, the Stanislaus County Office of Education Homeless Resource Team and the Golden Valley Health Centers Foundation, raced to shop for and pack groceries and pantry essentials. All groceries bagged during the event were donated to the participating nonprofits, with the top team also earning $500 in gift cards to support their cause.
