Modesto, Calif.—Save Mart announced this morning that its Holiday SHARES program raised over $200,000 for local food banks throughout Northern California and Northern Nevada. Thirty-five community food banks received a portion of these funds, the majority of which are affiliated with Feeding America. The program ran in the Save Mart family of stores throughout November and December.

“Proving meal solutions to families is Save Mart’s highest priority as a company and that commitment doesn’t end when you leave our store—that commitment extends into our neighborhoods to ensure everyone has a healthy meal,” explained Steve Junquiero, Chief Operating Officer of Save Mart Supermarkets. “Save Mart is committed to ending the fight against hunger—and clearly our shoppers are too!”

Save Mart contributes over $4.5 million to non-profit organizations selected by its shoppers throughout the company’s operating area. The Holiday SHARES program provided shoppers the opportunity to donate to their local food bank during one of the most critical times of the year.

“Thanks to Save Mart’s holiday SHARES program, our food bank will be able to provide the equivalent of 28,000 meals to our neighbors struggling with the burden of hunger. We’re extremely grateful to Save Mart and its customers for making the holidays so much brighter for our clients,” explained Michael Altfest of the Alameda County Community Food Bank. “We simply couldn’t do the work we do without strong community commitment like this.”
